Based on the ever-so-popular Vauxhall Corsa car, this latest generation Corsa van is bound to keep sales figures high for Vauxhall. It seats the driver and passenger in the front comfortably, and so the load area is directly behind the seats. Driving position is similar to a car, and the interior of the cabin uses the same fabrics and curvy dashboard as the Corsa car, even including the same translucent backlit dials. The size, engine and power steering make for a smooth car like drive both in and out of town.
Corsa van is offered with two engine choices, both with a 5 speed transmission. There is a 1.3 CDTi engine (using common-rail injection system) with 75 bhp, or the 1.2 Twinport petrol engine, which has a bhp of 80 and mpg of 48.7. The 1.3 diesel has a combined mpg of 61.4, which goes up to 72.4 in extra-urban conditions. Both of these engines have been tried and tested in the Corsa car.
This latest model has a taller loading aperture and a low sill height, to give easier access to the loading space. The load area is now flat at1.257m, and it takes a maximum of 550kg. Load space height is 0.924m with a width of 1.264m. Durable plastic paneling around the interior protects the van body from bumps and scraps. There are lashing eyes to secure loads, and a half height steel bulkhead to protect the driver from the load. For a small cost you can add a full size rubber floor mat, upper load restraint, and a load compartment cover to hide your load.
All models have body-coloured bumpers, full-width wheeltrims, and a choice of vibrant colours, 14-inch wheeltrims, and tinted tailgate glass. Security measures offered as standard are remote central deadlocks, anti-theft protection of stereo/CD player, immobiliser, and a drivers button to remote lock all doors. Optional extras include air-con, heated door mirrors and rear parking distance sensors.
Verdict
Cheap to buy and run. Good for deliveries around town.
