Road Test
Square solid back and sloping front emblazoned with Mercedes logo the Traveliner is certainly stylish. Large windows both sides and rear window give passengers good views and the driver great visibility. A choice of colours makes this minibus stand out from the crowd in looks. Long or extra long length. A glazed tailgate and twin sliding load doors. Inside the cabin the dashboard is neat and storage is in a reasonable sized glove that is lockable and illuminated as well as driver and passenger doors. Spacious there is plenty of legroom for all. Driver and passenger front air bags as standard.
The best technology on the market. The 109CDI, 111CDI and 115CDI come with a 2.2 common-rail diesel, 4-cylinder turbo-charged and intercooled engine. The 120CDI has a 3.0 litre engine. 6 speed manual or 5 speed automatic in 120 CDI. The engine is smooth and runs well at speed as well as pick up and drops in towns. The 120CDI has a top speed of 122mph with acceleration of 8 seconds 0-60mph. ABS and later models have Electronic Stability Program. Common-rail diesel engines ensure the Traveliner has the best technology in the market. Cubic capacity of body on long version is 4993mm without seats and a payload of 1875mm. Extra long has a cubic capacity with no seats fitted of 5223mm and a payload of 1872mm. You?ll find parking and tight manoeuvring no problem thanks to its 1.9m-width and power steering as standard, the long version has 11.8m turning circle and the extra long at 12.5m.
The Mercedes Traveliner is the most expensive in its market but Mercedes is confident their re-sale value exceeds its competitors. Good news for new buyers but for used buyers you will be lucky to find a bargain but if you believe in you get what you pay for its maybe worth paying that bit more for a minibus of this quality.
Verdict
A truly quality minibus that performs. Cutting edge technology engine, great visibility and maneuverability make the Traveliner a joy to drive.
