Road Test

The Iveco Daily 35S15 as the 17.2 cubic metre is the largest van on British roads. This van is a beast and not for the faint hearted. The exterior is stylish in a very Italian way with its bold design of high panels and clean lines. It's a long way up to the cab and you do feel very high up from the road as you hoist yourself up the steps. Interior is comfortable with adjustable drivers seat offering six positions giving a birds eye view. Next to the driver is a bench seat for passengers with plenty of legroom. The position of the gear stick has been lowered so one person can stretch out and relax. Access to the17m load space is made easy to access by rear doors which fold back to 270 degrees, these are unlatched by a spring loaded check strap allowing the doors to be opened and folded flat to the van sides enabling the van to be reversed into narrow loading bays or making fork lift truck drivers life easier. When opened the doors are held flat to the sides by a very strong magnet which would defy even the windiest day to blow them shut. With an interior height of 2.1m there is plenty of room from floor to room. Although check your model as there is a large range with varying degrees of height on offer. The side loading door goes to the roof line of the van so you can load straight into the side giving more flexibility. The internal length is over 4.5 metres or nearly 15 feet. Engine choices are 2.3 TD or 2.8 TD with a six speed box. The brakes are really smooth and provide safe stopping regardless of condition or speed provided by discs all round assisted by the vacuum servo. Overall handling of the vehicle for such a very large van is very light and driving at speed un-laden you need to keep your wits about you. The power steering is amazing and you need have no fear of parking or confined spaces. Maximum payload is less than 1200 kilos.

Verdict

A beast of a van with specifications to fit all needs. Smooth powered engine and maneuverability makes this large van easy to drive with enough space to meet most needs.
