Road Test

The Ford Ranger has a range of three models to choose from - Ranger, Ranger XLT and Ranger Thunder. The Ranger has a powerful 2.5-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine coupled with superb traction gives the Ranger the capability to deal with the most demanding of driving conditions. Available with a Double, Super, Regular Cab (4x4) or Regular, Super Cab (4x2), the Ranger has the space to comfortably accommodate all your equipment and tools. Each cabin style is finished in a high quality durable two-cloth fabric with matching carpets, making the Ranger as comfortable as it is practical. Ranger XLT powered by the 2.5-litre Duratorq TDCi 105 kW (143 PS) diesel engine plus four-wheel drive, the Ford Ranger XLT?s performance matches its imposing looks. Its eye-catching style including two tone metallic paint and chrome front grille, topped off with a luxurious interior and the unrivalled control of ABS, as standard, will get you noticed wherever you take it. The XLT is available in Double Cab (4x4) and Super Cab (4x4). The new Ford Ranger Thunder is not your average pick-up it's far too good looking. The exterior's powerful lines are balanced by a luxurious interior comfort. Eye-catching metallic paint, tinted windows and chrome-effect, embossed scuff plates, equal rugged good looks. Whilst air conditioning, sumptuous leather interior and standard ABS provide premium levels of comfort and control. The Ranger Thunder comes in Double Cab (4x4) and Super Cab (4x4). Almost too good to actually do any work in. Airbags for the driver and front passenger are standard, and front seat side airbags are available along with tough steel side impact beams built into each of the doors. 4-wheel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) is fitted for safe, dependable braking. Three-point seat belts are fitted for up to four occupants (Super Cab and Double Cab), while the Double Cab centre rear seat features a 2-point static lap strap. All models have tinted glass and a double-skinned steel pick-up box with 2-position drop-down tailgate. In addition to carrying onboard loads, the Ranger is particularly adept at towing - Regular Cab 4x2: unbraked 750kg; braked 1600kg And Regular Cab, Super Cab, Double Cab 4x4: unbraked 750kg; braked 3000kg

Verdict

The Ranger is a posing vehicle for the van buyer wanting to look good, an emphasis Ford seems more concerned about than the Ranger actually being a working vehicle.
