Ford Courier 1994 -2003

Overall Rating

2 stars

Still popular in the used van market, Ford Couriers are still running well after manufacturing ended in 2003. A small van with its square shaped box giving more storage space than the Ford Escort. Body is excellent with little sign of rust even on early models.

Road Test

Cheap options for the small van buyer as Ford are no longer manufacturing prices are starting at just over a grand for the best selling 1.8 diesel versions. Outside the rear shape is decidedly square while keeping the trademark rounded Escort front. The interior is basic with plastic dash and cloth seats, there are few re-finements but comfortable enough, you don?t feel like you are missing out on basics. Spacious legroom and side door storage, the feel is more like driving or sitting in a car in the front. Later models have power steering and a more comfortable cabin so only a few added touches. Driving is light and easy especially with no load, you could easily forget you are driving a van and it really is no hardship. Urban, distance and motorway driving are no problem, only time you remember it is a van is steep hills which are harder to climb. Two petrol versions 1.3 CFi and EFi and the most popular diesels with a basic 1.8 and a 1.8 TD. All models are reliable and don?t really cause any problems which is why the used van market is buoyant with used models. The rear space is large enough for most small van requirements and the rear glass windows help visibility when parking. If you are looking for a bit more room than a car and two seats are enough the Courier is a sensible cheap option which despite being outdated somehow doesn?t look it.

Verdict

It?s a basic van but if you are looking for space to carry a small load and a comfortable drive that feels like a car the Courier is fine.
