The Citroen C2 is a very small van with the carrying capacity less than the average estate car. A niche market that some will see as pointless and others will see it as the perfect van. One selling point this supermini van has going for it is the price.
For
- Excellent fuel economy
- Lowest insurance group
- Good level of safety equipment as standard
Against
- Niche market appeal
- Low carrying capacity
- Potential limited appeal on re-sale
Road Test
The C2 Enterprise may be small with the compact dimensions of a supermini but it has a modern exterior inherited from the C2 supermini with sprightly handling. The cabin looks reasonably sophisticated with tough black plastic and aluminium touches. There is not a lot of room for storage just two small glove boxes and door pockets. Storage is scarce thanks to the inclusion only of narrow door pockets and two small glove boxes. CD stereo, power steering, height and reach adjustable steering and a trip computer all on board. Safety and security are excellent and both are key contributing factors to the C2 Enterprises low insurance group of 1E, the lowest possible insurance group. ABS with EBD is standard as are twin front airbags and seatbelt pretensioners while remote central locking, an immobiliser and automatic locking that engages when the vehicle is moving.
One model the 3 door 1.4 HDi 70bhp Enterprise, the common-rail diesel engine will give excellent fuel economy with Citroen stating 68.9mpg on the combined cycle and a still outstanding average of over 50mpg around town. Steering is light but the brakes do a good job. The C2 is suited to the demands of urban drivers with good acceleration from low speeds. This van is nimble on the road with a tight turning circle of 9.6m fantastic for parking. The ride is firm corners well.
The C2 Enterprise has one of the smallest load bays in any van, less room than a supermini with the seats folded down. With split tailgate opening in two sections, one lifting up and the other folding down less space is needed behind the car to access the load area and the bottom flap actually drops down to create a loading platform, capable of supporting 100kg if you need to rest items on while you manoeuvre them into the load space. The flat load bed lined to protect bodywork with four load points to secure cargo and a full height steel bulkhead with mesh upper to protect the driver. The bottom section also has a 5-litre storage compartment for small items. The boot is only really capable of holding a few shopping bags, so even after removing the rear seats, the C2 Enterprise still only has 0.84m3 of space compared with the average rival supermini vans of around 1m4. The Enterprises weight bearing is 331kg compared to around 500kg in most competitors.
Verdict
Small but practical will suit niche business users like florists or caterers. Attractive purchase price and running costs excellent with amazing fuel economy and low insurance group.
