Citroën C15D 1985 - 2005

Overall Rating

2 stars

The Citroen C15 never really took off and despite being on sale for twenty years only sold 1.2 million in total. On the plus side it was cheap so there will be bargains in the second hand market as the C15 stopped production in 2005.

Road Test

Square bodied in typical style of it's era in the small van market sector. Inside creature comforts are few and far between. It took commercial vehicle manufacturers a while to see comfort of an option in vans, not just Citroen but all manufacturers were guilty of this. The seats are squashy and unsupportive and items such as central locking and electric windows don't exist. Drivers wanting to adjust their mirrors have to reach out of the windows and do it manually. At least the C15 does feature a radio/cassette player with a detachable front as standard. Two models are available, 600kg and 765kg payload versions, but be warned the 600kg doesn't have power steering and therefore will prove a real chore to drive. Although the 1.9-litre engine produces just 60bhp at 4,600rpm and 78lb-ft of torque at 2,500rpm, the little van is light, with gross vehicle weights of 1,545 and 1,710kg, so doesn't really feel underpowered, unless negotiating a steep hill with a full load on board. All engines are noisy, smoky and vibrate. Ride is particularly rough and you feel every bump in the road. Citroen stopped production in 2005 after 20 years and replaced with the Citroen Berlingo. The C15 can only be recommended as a cost purchase if price is an option and it is the only option you can afford.

Verdict

Un-popular even while it was still being manufactured so popularity now production has stopped will face to almost non-existent. The C15's saving grace has always been its cheap price making a potential second hand bargain, if price is your main consideration.
