I had an S40 and this car is everything it was not. The car is superb, apart from just one issue. The automatic gearbox is terrible (or is it because I am not used to them). Stamp your foot down on the accelerator and erm... nothing for about 2 secs, then all of a sudden it remembers it has a job to do.
Using the cruise control up botton, the gearbox changes down even when cruising at 80mph. And fuel consumption is dreadful.

I also have the 2.0T Auto and that is very thirsty. This one is perfect. Power, speed and not as thirsty. I have not serviced it yet, so have yet to find out how expensive that will be. But I will be having this car for the long haul.

Fast, economical, generous kit and comfortable over 3.5 years of ownership. However, at 4.5 years and only 56K miles, far too much is going wrong and it's expensive to service and fix

This car is comfy and great to drive. It has enough engine power to keep you happy and is a solid family car.
It looks good and feels good.
The let downs are it's so greedy on fuel and awkward in tight spaces.

Bought ex-lease at three years old with full VSH for under £10K. A fantastic motorway/long distance cruiser with an outstanding sound system; I can get out after five hours driving and feel ready to do the same again. Despite what the trip computer claims (it's over-optimistic) when fuel consumption is actually measured by actual physical litres in and miles covered, the car has averaged 45.5 mpg over the last 12,000 miles of mixed driving. It's not the sharpest handling car when driven hard but it clearly wasn't designed with that in mind. There is good mid-range grunt for overtaking. Using independent specialists the servicing costs are no more than average for a car in its class. Only real gripe is the appalling turning circle on full lock - it makes the car more difficult to park than a London bus! So far this car has exceeded my expectations by a considerable margin - it's a real under-rated gem in terms of value for money.
