The MK1 Vauxhall Vectra is a classic example of a thrown together for the least amount of money for a sales rep car by a major manufacurer (GM) type of car. Don't be fooled by the makeover in 1999 they are all rubbish. The steering is dead and lifeless, the handling like a barge on a rough sea. The seats are thin and incomfortable. The interior was dated from new and by the end of its life looks like a product of the 80's. Just check out that garish orange radio display (which goes wrong). Positive points are cheap purchase prices (and so they should be) low running costs, cheap parts (and you will need them) and low insurance groups (would you want to steal one?). The 406, mondeo, laguna, 156, Primera etc all out drive the MK1 vectra and also look better. If all you have ever owned is Vauxhalls the MK1 vectra will seem wonderful, everyone else will realise what a dated, badly made, poor to drive chunk of junk the MK1 vectra is. My father owned two in succession until he tried an older BMW 3 series and reality dawned. Buy one with low expectations and prepare to be disappointed.

I bought this when I was expecting and have to say it's been a great car. Economical to run with plenty of boot space for pushchairs etc. The only problem is that the seat gives me a sore back unless I drive with a cushion behind me. Also, it was hard to find a baby seat to fit in the back due to the long seat belt buckles. However I would still recommend this car highly.

I've had my Vectra for 4 years and covered 50k miles with ease. Car is roomy, comfortable and cheap to service plus gives very good m.p.g. for 2 litre.

Bought my car a year ago, runs well. Issue with starting but always starts, just takes a little longer than most. Noisy engine that tells everyone I'm arriving. Good speed. Body work lets it down, poor stereo. Would buy another, but will chose one with LPG.

I bought the car after driving it for 4 years and 95k miles as a company car after I left the company. Performance and fuel economy have been excellent - I easily managed 55mpg. I found the reliability to be very good. I sold the car to a friend at 150k miles 7 months ago and it's still going strong, unlike the Rover 75 Tourer I replaced it with - but that's another story! (See my review under Rover 75.)

I have been driving this car for approximately two years. With no problems to date, it has reasonable service costs, good running costs and has been a very reliable car.
Most importantly there is plenty of room for my dog in the back.
