1.4i GLS 5dr hatch

An attempt to be humorous but lacking any relevance I fear.
I owned an M-reg 1.4i GLS and can safely say it was the most reliable car I have ever owned. Cheap to run, in a low tax and insurance bracket and sharp to pull away. Yes, it complained a bit as it got older regarding fast speeds, but wasn't too bothered about sitting at 90 for a couple of hours. In the eight years I owned this car, I never had a major repair once, with the exception of replacing the brakes (£300 for all round ABS pads and discs).
It handled very well and was an all-round comfy car with good economy and handling. Still well worth the money, IMO.

What can i say if you don't like driving at 95 then this is a perfectly respectable car. Those of you that want warp factor acceleration better stick to sci-fi.

A great value sports coupe. Excellent performance, and long-distance journeys are a joy. A good spec and a sporty drive, but still very practical and good value.

1.8 16v CDX 5dr Hatch

Having owned two MK3 Astras previous to this I am impressed in the increased level of build quality, handling and ride. I feel this is the best mix of equipment and comfort/performance. Being the CDX its fully loaded and the 1.8 16v is smooth, quiet and powerful. 125bhp and 125lb/ft make for a swift car that accelerates easily up to the tonne mark and the handling and brakes are superb, making it a very enjoyable drive. Insurance group is reasonable and mpg is pretty low around town, but cruising steadily ive had an average of 39mpg.

Good acceleration, handling is ok, but the gearbox is awful - sometimes refusing to go into 1st (doesn't make you popular at traffic lights) or reverse.

Having driven several Corsas I moved up to a bigger car for the extra room and comfort. This Astra performs well and accelerates hard in 2nd and 3rd; it will even accelerate reasonably well in 5th on the flat. Hills are not a problem - it roars up them. It's the best car I've ever had.

I picked mine up for £750 absolute bargain, I've owned 3 of the previous model (Astra MK3) and this is superior in all ways, It's the best looking of all the Astras, I'm only 19 at the moment and the insurence/tax/fuel is extremely affordable. :)

A very good practical car. I never really liked Vauxhalls, but this car has really surprised me. No faults to report as yet.

Good value all-rounder, fun, frugal, carries all your family/stuff, cheap servicing, sharp handling and reasonably quick. A few niggles with the early models when new (rear brakes binding, computer malfunctions) - sorted on later models. I've had three different models. Get the 16v engine, the 8v always feels strained. The 1.8 is fast enough and there are some nice toys if you raid the options list. Enjoyable to own.

Very good for comfort and handling. The power is surprising as it's only a 1.6, but it has always held its own off the lights. Lots of fun to drive and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of buying one. I picked mine up at a bargain price of £2,000 with full service history and a couple of minor scratches.

Bought my '99 1.6 LS in 2006 for £1800 with 67k on the clock. We drove it for about 15 months before the wife 'drowned' it in an 18" deep puddle! In that time it was reliable enough, although it did need a new coil pack when the engine started to run on 2 cyls. Fuel economy was ok, usually in the lower 40's. Ride quality was very spongy and seats did not offer much support, which did make it slightly uncomfortable over long runs. It did perform well as a family car though and held all of our 2 year olds baggage with no problems. Not bad.
