I bought this car when I was expecting my 3rd child. It is a dream to drive, the kids love it and they have so much space. We have taken it over to France too and the whole car can be filled up with bikes as well as luggage. The big downside to it though is the fuel consumption. It absolutely eats petrol and probably averages 21-25 mpg. Not cheap! On the plus side though it sails through it's MOT and servicing each time with no problems.Being an automatic and a very large car, it is heavy on the brakes and these have needed replacing every 18 months. I am reluctantly selling it as it is now 10 years old and with financial cicumstances changing I have to realisticaly look at something more economical on the fuel. However, I am really struggling to find something to match the drive and space that I can replace it with, so may well end up keeping it!

The best people carrier on the market unlike a Ford Galaxy and all other mpv you dont have to take out the rear seats if carrying something bulky. Yes it is thirsty but all 6 of us went to Scotland and did 2000 miles and not one of the children complained about being uncomfortable, small price to pay for a bit of extra fuel

First off I must tell you that I am a mechanic and so you must take that into account when digesting this. I bought this when my 3rd child was born and we needed something bigger than my other car (a Nissan Primera). It had 121,000 miles on it when purchased. In the two years I have had the car I have had to change the head gasket, radiator, all cooling pipes, all brake discs and hand brake cables plus a raft of smaller items. Now the actual parts themselves have not been that expensive but of course I have not had to pay for labour. If however I had not been fortunate enough to have been able to do the work my self it would have cost me at least an extra £2000. Additionally these cars are horrendously heavy on fuel averaging +-22mpg.
The car is now a great drive and as a family we take it everywhere, especially many European holidays so it is now paying for itself. However I truly cannot recommend these cars to anyone who is not mechanically minded.
You should be especially wary of the imported Estima/Lucida/Emina models. These look similar to a Previa (and are often advertised as such) but use a 2.2 turbo diesel engine that is NOT economical at all and suffers from cracked cylinder heads which are even more expensive to fix than the problems on a Previa. What's more Toyota GB will not work on them and getting insurance on them can be expensive.
