I bought my car second hand four years ago. Then it was 5 years old, with 50,000 on the clock. It's now done 160,000 miles. For motorway driving it's been great - there is still plenty of acceleration at high speed, and it is very comfortable. But for driving in towns and on country roads the handling is poor and fuel consumption is not great. The pick up from 0-30 is disappointing and parking can be a problem in towns. It has also been expensive on repairs. During 4 years of ownership I've needed: a new gear box, new clutch, shock absorbers, battery, plugs and leads (even they were expensive!), two exhausts and three full sets of tyres. There's now a problem with the ABS system that is proving difficult to resolve. For the £5,000 I paid for it, I have shelled out an equivalent in insurance, repairs and services, and I'm now left with a car worth about £1,000 px with a persistent oil leak. Filling the tank costs about £60, and even driving sedately on the motorway I only get about 350 miles to the tank. I bought the car because I wanted a big reliable car that would last. OK, so I've done above average miles, but it has not really lived up to my expectations and because of finances I have felt rather stuck with it for the last couple of years, despite the fact that I no longer have the confidence in the car to do long journeys. The boot is cavernous, but the designers at Toyota forgot to include a boot opening that was similarly proportioned. Loading the boot has proved to be a challenge on more than one occasion. Overall, you could say it has served me well. After all, I've had it a long time and done a lot of miles, but on balance I've felt for a long time that I made the wrong choice. The problems really started at about the 100,000 mark, and for that reason I would be wary of high mileage Camrys.

I have done over a 140,000 miles in this.I am the second owner and it now has 176,000 miles on the clock. What has gone wrong - the air con is no longer cold, the back light on the radio has failed and that is it. A good large reliable robust car that tows well and cruises effortlessly for mile after mile after mile and it is only going now because I damaged the body work whilst driving and it is not worth fixing - but even with the damage it still gets through the MOT without fail. Cons petrol consumption, price of tyres does not fit into small parking spaces
