2.0 S Turbo

Strong, safe, quick and reasonably economical considering performance. I averaged over 30mpg despite the urge to drop into 3rd and bury the pedal in the carpet - very addictive! Has the edge on many hot hatches and even keeps pace with some of the new wave of ever more powerful machines (at least on the straights). Service and repairs can be expensive and front tyres will need regular replacement (no exotic rubber here so doesn't sting the wallet too badly). Refined on the motorway and the seats are fantastic - extremely comfortable and supportive. Very safe, 3 x three point seat belts in the rear and twin airbags upfront (this was a '95 plate car!). Sadly these features were put to the test (head on - airbags deployed)and subsequently the car written off but I honestly beleive that had my wife not been driving such a solid (think lump of hollowed out pig iron) and well equiped car that her and my children would have been very seriously injured.
Excellent equipment levels, onboard computer gives you range, average mpg and outside temp. which it flags should it drop below 3c (possible ice). It even warns you when a bulb blows or your washer fluid is low!
Downsides... Not the most rewarding in terms of handling and I suspect a lot less fun to drive when it's a less powerful model. Clutch is very heavy too.
All in all... buy one
