We have used our X-Trail for driving to and from Greece (with large dog) and living there for part of the year; it is a perfect car for the job. The 2.2 diesel does over 40 mpg on continental runs at 90mph-plus. After exhaustive testing of alternatives (CR-V, Santa Fe, Forester) we are buying another X-Trail, this time a 2.5 petrol auto (pity they don't do a diesel auto). Seats are much more comfortable than the Honda CR-V.
