220 CDi

I purchased a three-year-old 220 CDi 18 months ago with 100k on the clock. Due to the miles on it, the price was down to that of lesser marques and I am used to running much higher mileage cars. It came with full history.
I do a 30-mile round trip to work and have taken it to France fully loaded and towing. The car has been faultless and is still a joy to own and drive. I get 55mpg on work run and 65mpg+ on a long run!
The only minor niggles on owning are that some switches are in silly places and still do not come to hand naturally. Seats are firm but comfortable. It's now on 115k, and still drives and looks like new. I bought it as a cheap car to own and run - which it delivers along with the bonus of a prestige marque.

The best in its class. I have driven all the rivals and there is nothing to come close to this car. The leather is a must and the Tiptronic gearbox is smooth and responsive. BUY ONE!

Nice drive, under powered (buy 220 next) but does 45 mpg overall and well over 50 on run. Lights good as auto function very usefull. Engine very noisy when cold, gearbox faulted at 50k as did alternator, heavy on brake pads which is strage as not that strong, park brake poor too. Nice on motorway or in heavy traffic not an over taking car. Trim lasting well near 60k and not a mark, stone chips to bonnet not rusting. Would buy again but with more power.

Smooth, refined, comfortable. A great motorway cruiser. Handling is good even with the soft suspension and standard tyres. Good equipment list too, including climate, cruise, electric seats and parking sensors. Auto is smooth; I've not tried the manual but my older model C class was manual and I thought it was fine - Tiptronic is a waste of time though, I never use it. This is basically a great car if you're lazy or want to waft along. It corners well, is sure-footed with excellent grip, not in a sporty way though but then it's not meant to be. Performance from the 2.0 petrol is a bit lethargic but it's fine on the motorway. A little coarse when stretched and fuel consumption round town isn't great (mid to high 20s). The best I've made on a longer run is about 35 mpg. If you're not in a hurry you'll get more out of this car both in relaxation and running costs. Enough space inside -not so wide but plenty of legroom. Boot is large too. Not keen on the walnut dash but the cabin quality is generally good and seems durable. Haven't owned it long enough to comment on servicing though the sales side of the dealers leaves a bit to be desired.
