We bought 3 yrs ago and haven't had too many problems. The handling now drifts to the left slightly, otherwise it has been a very reliable and enjoyable car so far. Long journeys are not a problem as it is comfortable. Overall a good purchase!!

Bought this car in July and so far has spent 3 weeks in repair shops. Can belt slip, 2 bent valves, cylinder head gasket gone and not the cars fault went down a pot hole and needed two new alloys and suspension parts!! Waiting to see hoe the reliability will be this year as love the car, handles well, back end slides nicely! Stereo sounds nice, quite nippy and very responsive engine. Just hope she holds up for the summer this year. Very good looking and looks so nice in the summer with the roof down. I hope she can hold up now as don't wanna spend any nore cash.

I bought a 99/T car with 64k miles; fortunately the previous owner had just paid £1200 for head gasket, belt, pump etc. Had the vehicle 18 months and has been driven hard and has been 100% reliable. It handles superbly, tail-out on the limit is excellent, and outperforms MR2 and MX-5 (I've owned 1.8 versions of both).

Sadly, after looking for over a year for what I thought was a 'mint condition' little MGF, I've had nothing but mechanical trouble with mine. It's a Y reg on 23,000 miles; I bought it at 18,000 miles, so have barely had any enjoyment out of it.
I've researched the problems on the net and see that they're plagued with problems, particularly the K-series engine. Coolant leaks and head gasket failure are renowned in MGFs; and from what I understand, the newer TFs are no better! Every other person I speak to with one has encountered issues!
I've had mine for 18 months and have spent just over £1600 on its various problems. Sadly I've lost all faith in the car and will be parting with it shortly. My advice to ANYONE thinking of snapping up one of these bargain cars is to thoroughly check all that you can. It's such a shame.

The Rover MGF 1.8 VVC is the top end model of the early MGF's and with stats like 0-60 in 7.0s seconds and a top speed of 130mph its not to be underestimated. If you are looking for a bargain you will find one yet there are reasons for this. The head gasket will inevitable go if it hasn't already and models from 95 - 98 are not of the best build quality. Yet on the other hand this car has aged well and you will find a lot of MG's that have just been used as summer cars by a middle aged man who roll it out of the garage for a polishes and will only go for a spin on a weekend if dry and it didn?t rain the night before. Holding an insurance group of 14 you would expect a heavy penny price tag, but it isn't that bad.
