Having read the review on here, i felt i needed to put the record straight. They've stated that the steering is heavy around town - but the power steering is incredibly light, and that there's a lack of space - that's rubbish too!
Off road ability is way ahead of Rav4, X-Trail et al. It's easily on a par with a Freelander. When you consider that you can pick one of these up for less than half the price of any of these rivals, the Sportage starts looking very tempting.
I've owned 7 4x4s in the last 10 years, and i've just bought my second Sportage. The engine is from the Mazda 626, and keeps going forever if looked after.
A GLX version an an N plate, will cost no more than a grand (forget what the price guides tell you), and has electric windows, mirrors and sunroof, alloys, adjustable steering column, adjustable lumbar support, and plenty of space!
Performance is comparable to it's rivals too, with a top end of just over 100 and a 0-60 of 14.8 seconds. Better than a Vitara! The only downside is it's poor towing ability, but even this would be adequate for most peoples needs.
If you want evidence of the Sportage's off road ability, go to youtube.com and type in Kia Sportage.
