I Traded in my escort for one of these as an upgrade and got just that. Very nice to drive and is quite a responsive little car. this model is quite nippy and gets you up to 60 pretty fast, The car does seem to strain a little once you get in the mid 80's but you shoudnt drive that fast anyway(lol)also i found the handling very light at first but this was probably because i was used to a much heavier car. Overall you get a smoothness unlike most cars in the same price range and some above. Fuel wise it is very economic even on those short petrol wasting journeys when you just cant be bothered to walk. I was lucky to get a lovely car considering the age(1999) no rust or marks outside and the interiour looked new but many of the features of this model may have eclipsed the odd scuff or fagburn just for sheer practicallity. these include timed wipers, adjustable steering column, adjustable pitch on headlights, seat material is fully removeable and therefore washable, electric windows and many more. One downside is that this perticular model dosent have central locking which is a pain in the arse when you are used with it. The car is more spacious than meets the eye and is ideal for a family of four comfort wise. Alltogether this is a (suprisingly) zippy little hatchback with a few extra creature comforts that other makes/models in the same price bracket dont have, if your looking for a cheap upgrade on a older car, getting a nice secondcar for the household or maybe purchasing your first car i would recommend trying one of these little babies out for size, you might just get hooked (like i did :-)
