The new Mondeo is a joy to drive. I used to own the older model and this one is so much better. Ride quality is superb. The diesel engine is very powerful. The cabin is laid out well and build quality is excellent. This is a really nice family car.

Nice looking car, I've always liked the newer shape and it's not as common on the roads as it once was - I think most reps etc are buying BMW's and Audi's but they are missing out on a very good car for a lot less money. Interior is classy and well built, nice Sony stereo though mine didn't have an iPod input. Comfortable and well equiped. The handling was a joy, the engine was a dog - totally unsuited to the car. No low end grunt and uneconomical, I'm sure the TDCi would be absolutely ideal in this car. I was making 100+mile a day commutes on A roads and motorways, driving carefully and only getting 30-35mpg, on this age car with such tepid performance you would expect a better return. Great car spoilt by poor engine, buy it with the diesel or the ST220 (if low fuel consumption is not paramount).

Y Reg 2001, new shape. Bought second-hand at 16 months old from a car supermarket. Low mileage, a good deal and no problems for 2 years. Then ..... handbrake cable constantly seizing, anti-roll bushes replaced 3 times due to cracks, front suspension spring snapped, and to top it all, a new cylinder head gasket, manifold and inlet valve. £1500 mechanical repairs on an engine that had only done 50,000 miles and had been Ford dealer serviced since new! That's the bad bits, now the good. It's a really great car to drive, although there is a lot of wind noise from the wing mirrors and rear of the car when doing 70mph(+). Very roomy and a well laid out driver's compartment. It handles well in the town or motorway, but other cars can match it e.g. new Vectra, Passat, Avenis. Car writers rave about it, but they only drive it for a test. Own it and drive it for a few years and you do notice the squeaks and rather bland appearance. Overall a very good car, maybe I just had bad luck after a few years! Oh, and Ford customer service don't want to know about mechanical failures if the car is out of warranty. Even when a Ford senior mechanic confirms a cylinder head should not go at such low mileage.
