I bought the car for £150 with 52k and 12 months MOT. Fantastic value for money. It handles well and is quick too. Not so great on fuel but plenty of grunt. Lots of room inside and a big boot too.

I've owned mine for two years and don't have a bad word to say. Turn the key and it starts evrytime, no breakdowns. It looks smart and drives very well with plenty of power when needed and good roadholding when pushed.

The crude 1.8 turbo diesel is very underpowered more like non turbo diesel handling not at all balanced steering gave no feedback. Always needing parts - starter motors break, cylinder bushes, cvs, water pump, door locks broken, electric windows. Needed assistance electric boot release broke external boot lock never worked. The gearbox shift finnally broke 2 days before I was driving across Europe, conveniantly 300 meters from my house. I vowed never to buy another Ford but did a few years later. However this car was comfortable on long trips gave good mpg (not vw audi good)The car was ok not as well built as an astra of similar vinatge better quailty interor than a peugeot of 306 of era. A different planet from the 306 turbo diesel I bought after it that was rapid and handled for what it was.

I bought this car from a dealer second hand desperate for a car to replace my old Rover 214 workhorse. I did expect it to be a little cheaper than it was (£3000) due to the focus being around, but I was not disapointed with the car. It is very comfortable, handles corners superbly and has a lot of grunt when you need it. It has taken me all over the country and i've found it to be very reliable, i've had a few minor problems all of which have been sorted cheaply due to the wide availability of parts from scrap yards. Overall a very sound car if a little dated in the looks department

I have had my Escort for 10 months. It has already needed 5 trips to a dealer for electrical faults, gearbox issues etc etc... A nice roomy car but very juicy on petrol and it looks a bit like a boat! I will be selling it as soon as I get it back from the garage.

I have owned two 1.8 TDi models: my first was a very early one and now I've one of the last with the Mondeo Endura engine. Yes they are a little lacking in refinement, but my first model did 75,000 miles and used no oil between annual services and regularly returned 50 mpg; and although my present car is not quite as frugal, I do tow a 5-berth caravan which speaks volumes for its pulling power!

Bought my car for a grand, had 130k on the clock, ran brilliantly. Only downside was that I had a leak in the roof, it was a soft top. It was a fun drive but I sold it as a change of job meant I had to use public transport. Regretted it ever since. Buying an Escort GTI this week though as I missed the fun and the handling, looked nice too with the recaro seats, best value for money of its era. Definitely recommended to a buyer with a budget!

I've had my Escort since 1998 - I love it. It's totally reliable and great fun to drive, it zips along smoothly at 90+ and is a comfortable ride. I've been thinking about getting a sleek new Focus but - hey - it has the same engine as the Escort, so why bother? All I'd really like to improve on would be air con, that's all.

Another great budget family car. Loads of room for all the family and a giant boot. Tows well too with a trailer tent. Handling fine and good steering. Ten times better than the early 1990's Escorts I drove as police vehicles which were very poor at handling and had back-breaking seats. Stick with the late Escorts and you won't go wrong.

The 1.6 16v Zetec is all you need for today's clogged up roads; it's very good on motorways and around town. Plus it's economical and easy to maintain. The later Escorts came with all the toys, so what more could you ask for!!!

Good handling, braking good, lots of engine noise when pushed hard. Well balanced cornering especially at higher speed. Nice car but not for speed freeks! Acceleration a bit slow. Lots of space inside and comfortable.
