Overall Rating | |
A stylish city tool, designed by Germans which ensures longevity. It has few competitors with quite the same style quotient. It's questionable choosing the convertible in a city - too much risk of a slashed roof.
For
- Brilliant design inside and out
- Cheap for a fashion statement and design icon
- Good vision, easy to park and nimble
Against
- Out of its depth on fast open roads
- Only two seats, limited load space
- Hesitant auto 'box reduces driving pleasure
Road Test
This little car has been on the road since 2000 and now available in right hand drive and convertible form, the Smart is a great city runabout. Everything about it is bijoux, two seats, micro boot and the tank which will give you a return of around 57 mpg. The greatest part about owning one of these Dinky toys is being able to park front on. The interior is very funky and there is an array of garish colours to choose from. Standard features are fairly frugal but, for performance, the Pulse version leads. The semi automatic gearbox lacks smoothness between gears but a few journeys will see you right.
