Road Test
Once again, the Volkswagen Golf provides the basis for the Octavia. This is excellent news for bargain hunters: you get a more spacious car for less, and one with an excellent standard specification.
Skoda has addressed the one major flaw with the old model by giving this Octavia more rear legroom. The car is longer wider and taller, and is now a class leader for interior space. Despite the fact that the rear seats do not fold flat, the boot is still massive.
The interior is a great place to be because of the high quality materials that are used. Occupants feel as though they are sitting in a well-equipped executive car.
The large range of Volkswagen diesel and petrol engines all work well. As ever, it's the mid-sized petrol units and the excellent turbodiesels that deliver the best combination of power and economy. Handling is confident and ride quality is good.
