Road Test

As with all manufacturers the focus is on economical engines improving fuel consumption and CO2 ratings. The Fabia has a re-freshed face for 2010 with a redesigned radiator grille and 3D-shaped headlamps. Excellent build quality, everything feels solid and well-finished. Fabia may look small outside but the interior is cleverly designed to maximise space. Four adults fit in easy, while the large doors help access front and rear. Drivers and passengers appreciate the big car feel, and decent quality materials are used throughout, contributing to generally excellent fit and finish. Trim levels have been replaced to be the S, SE and Scout specifications plus the Elegance trim level rather than the numbering system of the previous model range. Good choice of engines with four petrol and two diesel, with power outputs ranging from 60bhp through to 105bhp benefitting from direct fuel injection and turbocharging technology. A reduction of both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as well as improved performance and refinement. The 1.2 TSI 105bhp petrol engine is combined with the optimised, two-clutch seven-speed DSG transmission returning fuel consumption of 53.3 mpg and a CO2 emissions reduction of 56g/km to 124g/km (against the previous 1.6 105bhp Tiptronic). The four-cylinder 1.2 TSI engine is available in two power levels - 85 bhp and 105bhp. Both of these will also be available with a five-speed manual transmission. All engines comply with EU5 emissions standards, with both 1.6 CR TDI units emitting less than 110g/km CO2.
