Modus is funky and fun. It's like a tall Clio with sharper looks, a spacious interior, good equipment and a high safety rating. Although costlier than Clio, it's a more practical family choice.

Road Test
Modus shares its engines and some running gear with Clio, but it's a far more modern design. Its high-roofed profile and lots of glass give it the feel of a mini-MPV, and prices put it more in line with Yaris Verso and Meriva than with run-of-the-mill superminis such as Fiesta, Micra and Corsa.
Families with young children should find that Modus meets their needs. Rear seating and load space are adaptable, and few small cars protect their occupants better. It looks cool enough to pass as a stylish city car, too.
Chassis and steering responses are taut enough to make driving fun, but the 1.2 engine needs working hard to maintain the pace. Best choice is the more powerful 80bhp 1.5 dCi, although it's quite costly. The 1.4 is the best petrol unit for pace married with economy. Top 1.6 cars have lots of kit but look rather expensive.
