Renault Megane (2002-)

Overall Rating

4 stars

The Megane's looks will attract a younger audience - a little extreme for some perhaps but, as a package, a very enjoyable car.

For
  • The safest car in its class; five NCAP stars
  • Sharp styling stands out from the crowd
  • Excellent equipment, classy cabin
Against
  • Lifeless steering spoils it for keen drivers
  • Rear legroom is a bit tight
  • Long service intervals; 1.5 dCi is frugal
Road Test

As a rule, a car needs to offer comfort, performance, responsive handling, space for humans and cargo alike, strong build quality, controls that are easy to read and reach, reliability, value for money, safety and security. All these boxes have been ticked with the latest Megane and crash tests have awarded the full 5 stars. The diesel engines afford the best performance, particularly the two mentioned below and the drive is spirited and fun. An agile hatchback and a fine choice amongst the competition but SEAT's Leon is a well worth a peek too.
