Peugeot Partner Combi (2001-)

Overall Rating

3 stars

The Partner Combi arrived on the utility midi-MPV scene later than Berlingo or Kangoo, but it offers the same economical formula of space and operating efficiency at slightly higher prices.

For
  • Boxy shape means loads of space inside
  • Good value as a midi-MPV alternative
  • Sensible running costs, especially frugal 2.0 HDi
Against
  • There's no hiding its van origins
  • Sluggish and noisy old 1.9 diesel
  • Pronounced body roll when cornering
Road Test

Partner Combi shares Berlingo's engines, chassis and basic body panels, so the two cars perform very similarly. It's good to drive, with grippy roadholding and assured steering compensating for its noticeable body roll. The 2.0 HDi turbodiesel is the one to have, making light of big loads while returning 50mpg in typical use. Petrol models are adequate but only manage about 35-40mpg. Avoid the lethargic and unrefined old 1.9D. Like Berlingo, the Partner feels remarkably spacious inside. It takes five plus luggage with ease, and you can make full use of its van-like proportions with the rear seats removed. On some top versions, there's an unusual all-glass roof that enhances the airy interior even more. The main point of difference from Berlingo is Partner's higher prices, slightly slicker image and better equipment. If it's high specs you're after, you may be better off with Partner or even a top Kangoo model.
