Peugeot 807 (2002-)

Overall Rating

3 stars

The most up-market of the C8/Ulysse/807 MPV trio, 807 is closer to Galaxy/Sharan in terms of price and image. More money buys more equipment, including climate control on all versions.

For
  • Far more stylish and refined than the previous 806
  • Roomy, comfortable, very safe, good to drive
  • Lots of equipment; good storage space
Against
  • Like C8 and Ulysse, it depreciates steeply
  • Quite high running costs despite good fuel economy
  • Unconventional gear lever and instruments
Road Test

Bigger than Galaxy/Sharan, 807 comes with a wider choice of seat layouts - five, six, seven or eight. It scores highly for flexible space, although there's not much luggage space with all seats in use. Remove both rear rows and it's simply huge. Standard electric sliding rear doors are a bonus they cost extra on most rivals. As a family holdall, another big attraction is 807's five-star NCAP safety rating. Its strong body is complemented by six airbags and side curtain bags, putting it at the top of the MPV safety league. 807 feels quite nimble, with confident roadholding, a supple ride and good levels refinement keeping driver and passengers comfortable. 2.0 and 2.2 petrol engines feel lively and manage about 30mpg, but it's the 2.0 HDi and 2.2 HDi turbodiesels that most buyers choose. The latter unit gives 40mpg, pulls well from low speeds, and promises relaxed long distance cruising.
