Overall Rating | |
Peugeot's attempt at an executive car but with no prestige badge the 607 is of little interest in this sector. The 406 is good on equipment with efficient diesel engines but the lack of image and conservative looks make this a non-starter.
For
- Great value as a used executive choice
- Smooth ride, roomy cabin, low noise levels
- Lots of equipment in a quality cabin
Against
- Unfamiliar with very little image
- Very steep depreciation from new
- Future resale could be a serious problem
Road Test
Not sure why Peugeot bothered, they didn't put much money behind it obviously noit expecting to sell many. The 607 is mediocre, its only redeeming feature is a quiet, relaxed ride. Dull to look at, dull to drive, it is not even particularly comfortable and build quality is so-so compared with that of a BMW. The range consists of 2.0 litre, 2.2 litre and 3.0 V6 petrol engines plus a 2.0 litre and 2.2 litre diesel. With the 2.2 HDi coming ot on top. Depreciation is massive especially on the petrol models. Safety upgrades on 2004 model include side airbags for rear seats, Bluetooth technology and motorised opening of boot. Still not enough to give this a second look.
