The expensive suspension system ensures the kids in the back don't get thrown around too much if you prefer to drive, shall we say, with a bit of energy. Estate carries up to 1,525 litres of cargo, but the hatch will undoubtedly be the top selling model. Petrol engines range from 1.4 to 2.0, and there are three diesel engines - 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0. The 2.0 TDCi comes with 6 speed gearbox while all others are 5 speed.
Basic studio trim has electric windows and mirrors. LX adds aircon, Zetec has sports styling and an upgrade in suspension. Ghia has additional climate control, cruise control, automatic wipers and headlights. Top Titanium model oddly does not have cruise control but has sports seats in partial leather. Optional extras include leather seats, rear-mounted DVD player and rear sun blinds for the kids, and satnav for the grown ups. From 2008 all models gained ESP, and the Zetec S was introduced with additional sporty spoilers and 17" alloy wheels.
