Road Test

It is difficult to think of negatives here. The exterior has had a sportier make over, and the interior is still spacious and highly practical. Rear row has flip down centre seat, for more room for four passengers. Rear seats also now fold flat to create easy load space. Critics have long complained about the lack of additional seating, but Ford have launched along side this model the Grand C Max, for those in need of 6 or 7 seats. Many will be surprised by just how fun the C Max is to drive. Great steering, suspension, and fantastic fast engines. Road grip is aided by the new Torque Vectoring Control system (similar to Seat's XDS system), which cleverly uses the braking system to balance torque between the two front wheels. In practice what this means is that more power goes to the outside wheel when cornering so less steering lock is needed. Using Fords self developed EcoBoost technology, the 1.6 4 cylinder petrol engine is able to run with up to 20% less fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions than previous versions with the same output. Standard petrol engine available is the 1.6 TI-VCT with 105 and 125bhp output, or the new 1.6 EcoBoost with 150bhp the same combined mpg of 43 but a faster top speed and quicker 0-60mph. Diesel engines have been slightly updated to the 1.6 and 2.0 Duratorq TDCi engines, 2.0 TDCi is available in Powershift Auto. 1.6 EcoBoost and the diesel engines are available with Powershift 6 speed gearshift. This new technology allows for near immediate gear change increasing acceleration levels. There are only two trim levels available on the C Max, Zetec and Titanium. Standard on all models are 16" alloy wheels, air con, DAB radio/CD, leather steering wheel and Bluetooth with USB connectivity and voice control. Titanium adds auto headlights, rain sensing wipers, cruise control, dual temperature control and 17" alloy wheels. Options include panoramic roof with internal blind.
