Overall Rating | |
YRV sits on the edge of mini-MPV territory. It's roomy, practical and excellent value for money, but it's not as much fun to drive as its sporty looks might suggest.
For
- Stylish with youthful image
- Good VVTi engines
- Good equipment level
Against
- Bumpy ride
- Cheap interior
- Can be noisy especially at speed
Road Test
YRV stands for Young Recreational Vehicle. Not very trendy to look at, the Japanese Daihatsu runabout is a cheap option to purchase and not much to run where you should get 47mpg. The 1.3 petrol engine is the same as the Toyota Yaris and the YRV is very popular in Japan. Equipment levels are high and you can expect twin front airbags and a radio-cassette, even on the entry-level Radical model. The F-Speed's clutchless gearchange is fiddly but the four-wheel drive 4trak model is fun and useful for muddy roads.
