Car Maintenance

Correct maintenance improves reliability, extends vehicle life, keeps newer cars within manufacturers' warranty terms, and preserves used values.

When choosing a car, check out cost and convenience of routine maintenance.

With a new car, ask for typical costs for each service - manufacturers provide guidelines. For a used car, phone the service department at the local dealer, give the car's mileage and details of last service, and ask for an estimate for the next couple of years' servicing.

Check if the dealership promises same-day servicing, and whether they provide a courtesy car. Finding a conveniently located franchised dealer can be a problem with less popular makes of car away from big urban areas.
